I volunteered at the Salvation Army center around here a couple years ago, helping families pick out toys. It was really fun and I thought I was doing a good thing until two men came in. They were in poor shape, they wore a lot of layers and their jackets and pants had dirt and dust on them. I think they had been sleeping outside. They were coming in to get food from the kitchen, and one of the staff members took them to another room that wasn’t the kitchen. After a while, they were both escorted out of the building. I learned later that day they were kicked out because the staff speculated they were a gay couple and didn’t want to cater to those kind of people.
I can’t even look at the bellringers without being ashamed of them. They help a lot of people, but I don’t want to contribute to a group that still considers homosexuality to be condemnatory.

reblogging again because I added my story

i want so badly to raise awareness about this but i fall short every year.
know where your charity change is going, kids.

well shit.

 wow thats terrible :/

!!!!!

well

and this is why i never do charity stuff. i give money to people i know who need it.

(This sickens me, to think of the times I have actually donated to those homophobic fuckers… I know it helps people, which I love to do- but to see that kind of discrimination is NOT acceptable. Race, religion, sexual orientation or sexual identification does not determine a persons value. Even is equal and should be treated as such.)

Everyone, show this around. The Salvation Army is terrible, and actually spend money from their own charity to suppress equal rights. Don’t donate to them, go elsewhere if you want to make a good donation.

I’ll be honest, never read this comic. However this is a very painfully honest point. As someone who takes comicking (yes I said that) seriously, and as a person who actually DID draw a thousand page comic… there is literally no excuse here for the art to have literally no improvement over a year and about 900 pages later.

No, you can’t deny women their basic rights and pretend it’s about your “religious freedom.”  If you don’t like birth control, don’t use it.  Religious freedom doesn’t mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs.  - Barack Obama

oh, BO. You understand me.

Boom.
